Season Kick off

Firstly thanks to all of you who have shown your support and joined WWA early in the season.

We've been slow to reply but are working hard to get the season together. The sea breezes have officially hit and this weekend is one of our biggest and best wave events - The "Hydrodynamix" Greenhead Wave Event - Saturday 19th and Sunday the 20th. For those who aren't into waves we have a casual speed event on Saturday in Safety Bay (at the boat ramp/car park at the end of Bent St) Note- this event has been moved from Woodman Point as indicated on the calendar. The radar gun will be out and we are hoping to go fast enough to see a few fines issued… Bring your GPS if you have one. Nedlands racing will be on as per normal with the first start at 1.30pm on Sunday.

Cervantes 26th and Leeman Marathon 27th are up on the next weekend and sponsored by Windsurfing Perth - a brilliant weekend away - don't miss it. Contact Reg at Windsurfing Perth for details.

The Port beach to Scarborough - "Pelican Point Windsports" Perth Coast Run is up next on the 3rd of December - the 4th is the reserve day - numbers are limited to 80 and entry forms are enclosed.

Season Opening Party and Coast run Presentations 3rd of December- this should be a big night with a $1000 cash giveaway to one of the lucky participants in the Coast Run. Hopefully some of their good fortune might make its way over the bar.

Location - Contacio

Upstairs - Corner Scarborough Beach Rd and West Coast Hwy, Scarborough (opp. Observation City Hotel)

Start - 7.30pm with the Coast Run Presentations at 8.30pm

Entry - Free - All Welcome - Bring your family and friends

Entry forms for upcoming WWA events will be available later this week from our website at www.windsurfingwa.org.au

In Preparation for the event season you'll need some safety equipment and sail numbers - depending on the events you go in. For the coastal Marathons -(Leeman, Perth, Safety Bay and Lancelin) you'll need a type 1 or 2 Buoyancy Vest (PFD) and a hand held flare in good, dry condition and preferably in date.

You'll also need a unique sail number - a minimum of 300mm high in black. (Anything else is too hard to see from shore - looking into the sun). Getting a registered number will ensure no-one else can roach it half way through the season - contact info@windsurfingwa.org.au for details.

Insurance - The AWA umbrella insurance that covers WWA members will be changing its insurance policy to a new insurer QBE - note that this new policy is preferable in many ways but does not cover member to member incidents - the major change from the old policy. For more details - see the Australian Windsurfing Association Website - Insurance section.

Sailing News - Chris Lockwood has been over to Sandy Point once again and although they didn't get much wind they did still manage to clock some impressive speeds - just under 40 knots in just over 20 knots of wind. It says a lot for the efficiency of the latest gear.

Nedlands racing is growing strongly with a regular fleet turning up each Sunday - Bjorn Hagen dominating in the light stuff on the RSX Olympic Board and Steven Stratfold taking out the medium strength days. Last week saw a solid 20knot day and Dan Engdahl - one of the heavyweights took line honours. The handicapping system saw Claude Le Coq take first place.

PLEASE SUPPORT the sailing and social events WWA promote and run. Much effort goes into them and without strong support they probably won't continue. We also need volunteers for the upcoming coast run so please put something back and give us a hand - email info@windsurfingwa.org.au to help.
