Four hours drive north of Perth, the turn off to Cervantes takes you back to the coast and some of the best smooth water windsurfing available anywhere. This crayfishing town is situated on the southern edge of Ronsard Bay.
At Thirsty Point the local sea breeze accelerates as it is funnelled into the Bay. The contest site at Thirsty Point is popular with everyone from the novices to the pros. The shallow sandy bay at the point is protected by a long sand bar which gives smooth water on the inside as the wind rips over the beach.
The site of the previous Snag Island Classic Wave, Marathon and Slalom. One of the windiest spots on the WA coast in summer, 30 knot sea breezes are common so take some small sails. The best wave spot is Centre Break, a reef south of Point Louise, 1 km out from the jetty on a 90 degree reach from the jetty. This is one of the best left hand wavesailing breaks on this part of the coast.
For flatwater any part of this coast is great at Green Head.
The area is good for fishing, snorkelling and scuba. A dinghy is handy to get out to the reefs for fishing. There is a charter boat company (Sealion Charters) for fishing or just sightseeing.
The towns of Green Head and Leeming are small but have several shops, and a caravan park each. Geraldton is the nearest windsurfing shop.
The reefs off Point Louise are good surfing and boogie board waves. Other than water based sports and recreation there is not much else in the area except Lesueur National Park. If you like shopping and night clubs, then stay in Perth.
Green Head Caravan Park has both 4 and 6 berth Park Homes and on-site caravans plus powered and unpowered grassed, shady sites.

Situated 110km north of Perth, Lancelin is an internationally renowned windsurfing location, famous
for the annual Ledge Point to Lancelin Ocean Classic. With a field of over three hundred competitors
the 'Classic' is the biggest windsurfing event in Australia.
Lancelin and Ledge Point have become very popular, particularly as a base for European windsurfers
who spend two to three months in WA each summer. The large bay in Lancelin is surrounded by
shallow limestone reefs and provides a picturesque learning and slalom area whilst the waves around
the passages are ideal for huge jumps and easy riding. Its proximity to Perth is a bonus!
The Lancelin sailing beach offers both flat water sailing and wave sailing. As well as the main sailing
area there are several wave sailing spots such as 'Hole in the Wall' and 'South Passage'. Sailors can
also sail on the back beach, or throughout the main Lancelin Bay (wind and reef permitting).
The main windsurfing beach is known as Windsurfer's Beach and features an inshore flat water area. Close to the beach and the wave area behind the waves average 1-2 metres breaking onto reefs.
To the right is the wave area called 'Hole in the Wall'. This reef break attracts less sailors and often has better swell conditions. Further north but still just south of Lancelin Island is 'South Passage'.
Again this attracts fewer sailors, but the conditions are generally good. South passage presents a great riding wave, assuming you keep going left. If you don't you might hit the reef in shore.
Social get together down winder designed for all levels of sailors , Sailing from Point Walter to Peli Point.
Sausage sizzle on the beach afterwards.
